Bees of North America– Lifestyle Matters
Did you know that there are approximately 4,000 different species of bee in North America? Not every species of bee makes a traditional hive it's home. Some species of bee spend their lives in hives that are in sand or hollowed out twigs or tunnels. These are called mining bees and wood-carder bees. Understanding the role each species plays in our environment, is crucial to understanding how over thousands of years bees, helped shaped natural environments ripe with biodiversity like Santa Cruz County. Humans often see themselves in bees, as they too are industrious creatures building throughout their lives.
